Taj Mahal

February 5th
Today we arrived in Amritsar. We are staying in a gurudwara. That is a place where homeless people can come and stay for free and there is a dining hall nearby that serves everybody for free. We plan to leave a large donation when we leave.
We are inside the Golden Temple complex so we have to wear these toques we got for this because it is something to do with the proximity of the temple and Sikhism.
The food that they sere in the dining hall is really good! It is chapati, dal and rice pudding. We went there for lunch and I want to go back for lunch the next day and the day after that and the day after that and the....
We have been burning incense, the incense I bought in Jaipur, and so far my favourite is strawberry. We lit opium incense and it was very stubborn. It took me four matches to light.

February 10th Sunday 79 days

Today we saw the Taj Mahal in all its grand splendour.
We watched the sun rise over its gardens and river.
We saw the carvings and beautiful inlays.
We saw the towers beautifully portrayed.
We heard the cameras clicking in reply
to the little birds a-flying in the sky.
The tress rustled in the wind and the fountains sprayed up water.
The squirrels ran and played to make all people happier.
And it seemed as though the Taj's magnificence could never end.
We saw it there as the sun rose over.

We also saw the Baby Taj, a smaller palace, but I kind of liked it better. It had more inlay work

and was in a more square shape. It was built for a vizir. There were some squirrels there too and they hopped around. One poked his head into a pipe and drank water from it. There was a red sandstone gate that had a nice courtyard containing the baby Taj. I found all of it to be very beautiful.
