November 22nd
Today we went to Jerash, the ancient city. We saw a R.A.C.E. performance in the hippodrome there. RACE stands for Roman Army Chariot Experience. At first it was a sort of Roman Army Drill. There were a Bunch of People in Costumes marching and showing different formations. I liked two formations. One was to Defend Against Calvary where they put their shields up with spears sticking out and most horses wouldn't want to charge it. If a horserider did manage to get his horse to charge them, they would....retreat. My other favourite formation was the Through The Tunnel formation. In this, no one could hurt them because they were protected by a tunnel of shields.
After that came the Gladiator Battles. Lots of gladiators had battles with each other. The loser could either live of die depending on what mood the crowd was in. Two out of seven losers died. One of the people was resurrected, however.
Then there was....The Chariot Race! There were three chariots with one rider and two horses for each. They raced around the track with ever gaining speed. First, the red one was in front, but oh no! Green was catching up! Red pulled ahead around a corner but Green took a tight turn and was in the lead. Blue and Red were neck and neck for second and gaining on Green. Green took a wide turn and then it was Blue ad Red in the lead! Blue pulled ahead and then Green then Blue then....Red! Red was first, then Green and then Blue.
After the show was over we looked at the rest of Jerash (which was a lot). and then came back to the hotel. We called Memere but the sound kept cutting out so we called her on her phone. That worked better. One of the beds collapsed and Papa is fixing it now. We haven't had supper yet so I'm hungry. Eat!

Today we woke up in the Wadi Rum, a desert in the Middle East. How the Middle East can be in the middle and yet in the east is a mystery to me. Anyway, last night we slept in the tent and had a great....assault of snoring....from two directions....stereo snore.
But we did have a great time. We went with the New Zealanders and they have a son who is 10 so we played with him a lot. He has a Gameboy so we played on that a bit too. On the way into the Wadi Rum we stopped at a couple of places. One was for lunch and we climbed a giant sand dune. It was realy hard but I managed to make the thousand and some metres to the top through the partially sinking sand hill. Papa cheated and took the easy way but he didn't get the full experience.
